BCC Weekly Newsletter - 10th - 16th September
The scenario heading into last weekend couldn’t have been scripted any better.
We were 3 points clear - winner takes all in a MAMMOTH top-of-the-table clash.
However, the rain had other ideas. A complete washout for both our 1st and 2nd XI matches.
Did that dampen our spirits? What do you think? Of course, you’d rather win it on the pitch but the beer (and fizzy pop for Qas) still tasted just as sweet long into the night.
🏆 LANCASHIRE LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION CHAMPIONS 🏆
Or should we say back-to-back champions? Or should we mention 3 league titles in 4 years?
Incredible effort by Burty and his band of merry men (very merry men after an early start on the gas on Sunday afternoon).
What a team. And what a season. To be lifting that trophy at the end of it all, we’re all very, very proud of the lads.
Big shout out to the 2nd XI too who were presented with their league trophy in the rain on Sunday too. 3 trophies in 3 seasons. With a massively inexperienced side, this season has been a great achievement. The youth have done us proud - and olde faithful, Brunty, of course.
What a season for the club - and there’s still one week of action. Let’s jump into what’s on at the club this week…
TUESDAY 10th SEPTEMBER
Closed.
WEDNESDAY 11TH SEPTEMBER
Lancashire U13s school action | 9.30am opening.
THURSDAY 12TH SEPTEMBER
6.30pm opening.
Our 3rd XI will be prepping in the nets for their season-ending double header this weekend.
Upstairs in the bar, Thursday nights don’t change now the season is all but over - snooker and darts.
FRIDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER
7pm opening.
No Friday night cricket fix on the Turf.
International T20 action on the box though - England vs Australia.
Thankfully, the international break is over - Hull vs Sheffield United from 8pm.
And if that doesn’t tickle your fancy, POB and the gang will likely be down for Friday night club.
SATURDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER
3rd XI vs Ramsbottom | 12pm opening.
The first game of a BIG weekend for our 3rd XI. Play starts at 12.30pm.
HUGE game for our neighbours. The Clarets travel to Leeds in the 12.30pm kick-off. We’ll have it on in the bar, followed by the rest of the day’s football too.
As Blakey would constantly remind us, “It’s a cricket club!” With that in mind, we’ll also be keeping a close eye on the T20 Finals Day from Edgbaston.
SUNDAY 15TH SEPTEMBER
LADIES vs Rishton & 3rd XI vs Rochdale | 9am opening.
Rounding off the season in style with 2 games for your final cricketing Sunday of the summer. What summer?
Our LADIES get us underway at 9am vs Rishton. Followed by our 3rd XI who host Rochdale from 12.30pm. Good luck to both teams - let’s end the season with a couple of wins!
The North London derby gets underway at 2pm. Plus, the third IT20 between England and Australia. Plenty to keep you entertained.
MonDAY 16TH SEPTEMBER
CLOSED. Too busy crying that the season is over.
REMINDER: CHANCE TO GET INVOLVED AND HELP THE CLUB...

BCC Weekly Newsletter - 2nd - 8th September
🏆 CHAMPIONS AGAIN, OLE OLE! 🏆
Matthew Thornton's Barmy 2nd XI Army have gone and won the league again thanks to a 10 point victory over the border in Littleborough. The hosts won the toss and chose to bat but were restricted by a combination of our bowling attack and the weather. We were left chasing 176 from 41 overs.
The openers got the chase in motion with a brisk opening stand of 63 off the first 12. That was until Ali Sagheer Ahmed was trapped LBW for 33 off 39 balls bringing Matt Roberts to the crease.
Josh Holding, suffered the same fate as his opening partner, LBW on 59 with the score now at 131/2. But another 50-runs for Peanut's stats column in what's been a great season for the young batsman.
Joey Marshall (0) and Ali Syed (3) came and went but Matt Roberts, steered the innings home with a 61 not out, his innings including 7 fours.
Brilliant work from Choccy's men and another magnificent season for the 2nd XI. We will, of course, have more to come once the season completes next week.
Meanwhile, back at home, things were far less routine for Burty's 1st XI.
You'd be forgiven for thinking the 12 point victory was absolutely routine given that we bowled out the visitors for 75 in the first innings.
Some astounding bowling figures left LIttleborough in no position to get a victory as the rain clouds built and built. Like a binary automaton, Fergus Bailey's figures were 1 for 11 off 11 with 0 extras. Completely shutting down one end and allowing Ocky and Baz to reap the rewards. The pro got 3/23 and Trip extended his record with another 3 wickets for just 8 runs.
But things were far from routine.
The spiciness began in the tea room - and it wasn't just Fiona's fajitas. A lively (let's call it) debate ensued between our lads and members of the opposition who had been goading the champions-elect all afternoon. It was thanks to Joe McCluskie that things were brought to a calm as the hard-hitting batter diffused tensions with a perfectly timed comedy fall.
Normality restored, our openers went out to bat chasing the low target and all was rosy until Bedders fell for 24. We went from 29/1 to 31/5 in an astounding spell of play. Littleborough's sub-pro, Zafar Gohar ripping through our attack.
Our former captain and stand-in bar-steward-who-bats-a-bit, Daniel Pickup got the second highest score of the innings and the match with 19, eventually being run out.
We limped over the line with 1 wicket victory, but most importantly collected 12 points and head to second-placed Darwen this Sunday with a 3 point lead at the top.
Champions again-again, ole ole?
TUESDAY 3RD SEPTEMBER
U11s v East Lancs | 5.30pm opening
No junior training, as a reminder. There will be indoor training in the new year, including for All Stars. Thanks so much for your patience and attendance when the weather did permit this year.
Why does it always rain on Tuesdays?!
WEDNESDAY 4TH SEPTEMBER
U15s v Haslingden | 5.30pm opening
THURSDAY 5TH SEPTEMBER
U11s v Whalley & Senior Training | 5.30pm opening
FRIDAY 6TH SEPTEMBER
U15s v Walsden | 5.30pm opening
SATURDAY 7TH SEPTEMBER
U9s v Enfield, 3rdXI v Enfield | 9am opening
A bumper day of cricket to close off the junior and 3rdXI season. Join us for a brew and some junior cricket and stay for an afternoon watching Andy Beet's 3rdXI team containing, no doubt, some future stars of BCC.
U9s start at 9am. 3rd XI at 12.30pm.
SUNDAY 8TH SEPTEMBER
Ladies Super 8s, U9s v Whalley, 2nd XI v Darwen | 9am opening
A double header of cricket to start the day. There'll be plenty of buzz as our ladies and U9s start the day together.
The 2024 Lancashire League 2nd XI Champions bring the curtain down on another magnificent season at the boohoo.com Turf Moor ground.
As mentioned, the 1st XI head over to Dar-ren in a winner-takes-all title decider.
Bring. It. Home.

BCC Weekly Newsletter - 28th August - 2nd September
Having just about come round from the Bank Holiday weekend, it’s time for this week’s newsletter. Again, it’s a little later than billed but you can blame a fuzzy head after a week in Ibiza for that. My bad.
Anyway, onto the cricket… both our 1st and 2nd XI remain top of their respective leagues after last weekend’s doubleheader. A win and a washout for the 1st XI - while Chocky’s LADS racked up two victories.
Saturday saw our 1st XI make the trip to YARKSHIRE to face Tod. A classy 61 from Qas and a vital 5-fer from Snowy contributed to our 39-run victory and 12-point haul. Top work from the young'ns.
Our 2nd XI hosted theirs. A captain’s knock (slogger) of 55 from 33 balls marked a welcome return to the side for Chocky. Plus, Ali chipped in with a solid 48 in the first innings. Stevie Brunt’s 3-fer chipped away at them in the run chase and the visitors fell short - a 17-run victory for us.
On Sunday, our 1st XI were beaten by the rain. Points shared. Still top of the league by 3 points.
Our 2nd XI managed a result in a reduced 25-over game. Josh Holding leading the way with a run-a-ball 52. Khubaib and Thornton did the damage with the ball with 7 wickets between them. Burnley won by 14 runs and extended their lead at the top to 20 points.
Just two more games to go now - CRUNCH TIME 💪🏆
WEDNESDAY 28TH AUGUST
Our U15s are at home to Great Harwood. 6pm start. Club open from then too.
The Clarets are in Carabao Cup action tonight too. We’re away at Wolves - KO 7.30. The weather might get a bit too wet for the cricket tonight, so take shelter inside and hopefully see our neighbours progress to the next round.
THURSDAY 29TH AUGUST
Our U11s welcome Clitheroe to the Turf. 6pm start.
Senior Training. 6pm - 8pm. The boys will be putting in the hard graft for the last two games 💪
Snooker and darts from 7pm upstairs.
FRIDAY 30TH AUGUST
SEMI FINAL ACTION.
Our LADIES host Leyland for your Friday night cricket fix. Good luck, girls. Let’s get to that final ✊
Inside we’ll have Luton vs QPR on the telly. 8pm KO (Sky Sports).
SATURDAY 31ST AUGUST
No cricket on the Turf today. That at least gives the lads a day off from the heckling football fans.
Our 3rd XI are over at Great Harwood. 12.30pm start.
It’s the first East-Lancashire derby of the season. The big one. Burnley vs those lot.
Nobody looks forward to this fixture, do they? Settle your pre-match nerves with a pint and some scran before venturing onto the Turf. Club open from 9am.
Let’s hope for another 3-nil, eh?
If you’re not heading to the game, you can watch it in the bar. No, not through the little window at the top of the stairs. We’ve got it on the box - 12.30pm kick-off.
Everything you can expect from a typical BFC matchday at BCC can be found here.
And don’t forget to come back for Happy Hour all day afterwards. Plus, we’ll be showing the Test Match, the scores from around the grounds and West Ham vs City at 5.30pm (Sky Sports).
SUNDAY 1ST SEPTEMBER
A top-of-the-table clash for our 1st XI awaits. We host Littleborough in our last home game of the season - they don’t get much bigger than this at this stage of the season. 12.30pm start. Good luck lads - keep the momentum rolling. And if the results go our way, we could have the league in the bag before the final day 👀 let's not get ahead of ourselves now.
Plenty of sports to go at - however, you’ll be outside in the sun watching the cricket, right? The Old Firm derby is at 12.30pm (Sky Sports). Plus, Super Sunday, the Test Match, F1 and more.
Our 2nd XI are at their place (12.30pm start too). With a 20-point lead at the top - will they return as champions with a game to go? We certainly hope so. Come on, you Burnley boys 😍
MONDAY 2ND SEPTEMBER
U15 action as we host Longridge. 6pm start - club open from then too.
CHANCE TO GET INVOLVED AND HELP THE CLUB...
Are you involved with our monthly draw? If not, don’t let Brunty catch you. It’s only a 5’er with some great prizes on offer. BCC Weekly Newsletter - 20th - 25th August
You've got Paul writing the newsletter this week as Tommo is in Ibiza (uns uns uns uns ), so here's the usual quick weekend roundup first.
Whilst the other Turf Moor saw the Clarets storm to a 5-0 victory against Cardiff on Saturday, our Third XI came second to Haslingden in an equally entertaining game. Was great to see home and away football fans turn out in great numbers again.
We played Haslingden again on Sunday but this time our 1st XI were at home and the 2nds went up the M66 to their place. Both teams collected 12 points in convincing victories and remain top of their respective league tables.
Oh, yeah; Bharat Tripathi became the leading amateur wicket taker in Burnley Cricket Club history by breaking the late-great Joe Fletcher's record of 622. Asked about what it means he said,
'I can now start running the 3rd XI and make everyone knock up in their helmets.'
Just how Joe did.
TUESDAY 20TH AUGUST - 5.30pm opening
All-Stars at 5.30pm
U9s vs Lowerhouse at 6pm
Junior Training at 6pm
Lots happening down the club tonight, weather permitting. As I type, however, it's looking like the rain might win yet again on a Tuesday.
Keep an eye on your emails and phones for messages from your coaches.
Meanwhile, our U13s are heading over to Ramsbottom.
WEDNESDAY 21ST AUGUST - 6.00pm opening
U13s vs Longridge at 6pm
And the U15s head over to Haslingden. Praise be to the parents on taxi service.
FRIDAY 23RD AUGUST - 5.30pm opening
U18s Cup Final vs Great Harwood
Now then, what a way to end the midweek action. Good luck to the Youths - bring it home.
SATURDAY 24th AUGUST - 12.30pm opening
2nd XI vs Todmorden at 12.30pm
Whilst the 1st XI head over the border to Todmorden looking to extend our 3 point gap from second placed Darwen. Our 3rd XI game at Rochdale is cancelled.
At the club, more football than you can shake a stick at and England vs Sri Lanka on the telly. Standout game is probably Villa vs Arsenal at tea time.
These crossover Saturdays really are the best aren't they?
SUNDAY 25TH AUGUST - 12.30pm opening
ALL DAY CRICKET!
Ladies Super 8s vs Great Harwood at 9am
2nd XI vs Clitheroe at 12.30pm
1st XI head into the Ribble Valley in the reverse fixture.
LAST CHANCE TO JOIN OUR BCC FPL...
This is your last chance to join the BCC FPL. Plenty of prizes to be won and a chance to help out the club a little bit. Sounds good, doesn’t it? All information, here.
Speaking of winning money and helping the club, Brunty is still keen to get more people involved with the monthly draw. It’s only a 5’er with some great prizes on offer. Plus, a chance to raise cash for those well-needed improvements to the clubhouse. All sign-ups are much appreciated, as always.
YOUR SUPPORT IS ALWAYS WELCOMED & APPRECIATED!
We’re coming into the business-end of the season now and both our 1st and 2nd XI are peaking at the right time, it seems. We’ve seen some great cricket throughout the season - and there’s plenty more where that came from.
The forecast looks grand for the weekend (for a change), so, we’re already looking forward to seeing all the familiar faces and potential new ones down at the club. Come and cheer the boys on this weekend with a beer in your hand - you can’t beat that, can you? UTC x
BCC Weekly Newsletter - 14th - 19th August
A little later than billed this week - our apologies! It’s tough at the top though, eh?
That’s right. Last weekend, we saw our 1st and 2nd XI go top of their respective leagues. Get in.
After thrashing Rochdale and Darwen losing on Saturday, our 1st XI are clear by just one point. With the sides set to meet on the last day of the season, this one will go right down to the wire!
Another weekend, another all-round performance from both sides. Standard.
Our 1st XI were home and hosed by 4pm. Job done by 9 wickets. We couldn’t not mention Baz taking a sublime 8/20 in the first innings. Freak.
Our 2nd XI leapfrogged Ramsbottom by beating them by 58 runs. 12 point victory without giving their opponents any either. Meaning that they too are top of the league by just 1 point. Top work.
Unfortunately, our 3rd XI lost by 30 runs to Great Harwood on Sunday.
The season rolls on - and we’re reaching crunch time! As always, we’ve got a busy week ahead of us at the club. Here’s what you can expect…
Wednesday 14th August
SEMI FINAL ACTION. Our U18s host Haslingden tonight. 6pm start.
Meanwhile, our U11s are making the trip across town in a midweek derby.
Carabao Cup on the box - Leeds vs Middlesbrough at 8pm (Sky Sports). Plus, The Hundred in the early evening.
Thursday 15th August
Our U11s take on East Lancs. 6pm start.
As always, we have senior training from 6pm - 8pm. The boys will be put through their paces ahead of another big weekend. Well, most of them will be - you can catch Chocky skiving off fielding drills for a crafty fag.
Darts and snooker into the evening too.
More cricket on the telly too - The Hundred.
Friday 16th August
For your Friday night cricket fix, our U13s are at home to Ramsbottom. 6pm start.
Plus, our U15s make the trip over to Clitheroe.
The Premier League is BACK! Manchester United vs Fulham (8pm - Sky Sports) gets us underway.
Saturday 17th August
Our 3rd XI are at home against high-flying Hassy. 1pm start.
We’re open earlier than usual though as it’s the Clarets’ first home game vs Cardiff City. 10.30am.
As usual, we can expect a bigger crowd for the cricket - packed with football fans getting their fill and poking fun at the batsmen before watching Scotty Parker’s boys run riot at 3pm.
Everything you can expect from a BFC match day at BCC is included here. Most importantly though, it’s happy hour after the game all night!
If the cricket and the football next door aren’t enough for you, there’s a dinnertime and teatime kick-off on the telly for you to gorge on. Saturdays 😍
Sunday 18th August
MATCH DAY!
Hassy are back at the Turf for a 2nd day running - this time it’s our 1st XI who play hosts. 2nd XI are at their place. Both 12.30pm starts.
Can both sides keep the momentum rolling? Another 8fer would do just nicely thanks, Baz.
Club opens at 12.30pm with all the usual offerings.
Ribble Wealth Management are in the sponsor's lounge - which usually means there’s a barrel of plum porter not too far away!
Chelsea vs City at 4.30pm. Plus, a host of Championship games earlier in the day and The Hundred Final too.
Monday 19th August
Nothing on Monday night - our U15s travel to Longridge.

BCC Weekly Newsletter 6th - 11th August
Is there anything better than a comprehensive win on derby day? Hold on… there is actually.
TWO comprehensive wins on derby day. Plus, both teams completed a seasonal double over Lowerhouse.
Superb all-round wins from both sides left the old enemy pointless, while our boys walked away with maximum points. Tremendous.
Both wins included plenty of standout performances - we’d be here all day mentioning them all, to be honest. However, BIG shout-out to Bedders for his impressive knock in the first innings (100 from 122 balls). Less credit for his celebration though.
Wins from our 3rd XI and Ladies rounded off a clean sweep for BCC over the weekend.
Plenty more where that came from! Let’s dive into what’s on this week at the club…
TUESDAY 6TH AUGUST
U12 Interleague vs Liverpool during the day. Play started at 11am and we’ve got the bar open for it.
Junior training as per in the evening. With nice weather forecast all day, any thirsty parents can enjoy a drink on the terrace while the kids get to work.
Or if you somehow need a further cricket fix, head inside to watch The Hundred (Sky Sports) with Blakes.
WEDNESDAY 7TH AUGUST
Nothing today - club closed.
THURSDAY 8th august
Our U11 B's are in action. We welcome Whalley to the Turf. 6pm start.
Senior training as usual 6pm - 8pm.
As usual, Thursday nights are busy down the club. You’ll find the local darts league on the oche and Snowy hogging the snooker table until late on.
More cricket on the box - The Hundred (Sky Sports). Plus, the Rugby League too.
FRIDAY 9TH AUGUST
Our U15’s are in action to provide your Friday night cricket fix. Enfield are the visitors. 6pm start.
Friday night sees the Football League season return! There’s 4 games on Sky Sports. We’ll likely be watching Derby beat Blackburn to kick things off in style.
Start the weekend off right - “BAR’S OPEN!”
SATURDAY 10TH AUGUST
It’s MATCH DAY!
Our U9 B kick off the weekend action in the morning against Colne. We’re currently sat in 2nd place - keep up the good work, youngsters!
Chocky’s 2nd XI are at home in a top of the table clash with Ramsbottom. Can we continue our good form and close the gap? Club open from 12.30pm. We’ll have Anne in the kitchen - serving a wide range of hot and cold specials. Plus, happy hour after the game. You know the drill by now.
Our 1st XI are away at Rochdale. Likewise, looking to continue their solid recent form and hopefully gain some ground on Darwen at the top of the league. 1pm starts for both.
Good luck, lads.
It’s the first Saturday of the football season and we’ll have all the action shown in the bar. Live games aplenty and the scores from around the grounds filtering through. Plus, there’s a host of cricket, plenty of Rugby League and other sports to keep up with too.
SUNDAY 11TH AUGUST
A rare Sunday off! We’re closed for a private function.

An action packed weekend saw plenty of great cricket on show at the Turf, culminated by a 7 wicket victory for our FIRST XI over Middleton. It’s always nice to see plenty of familiar faces - with the ‘84 Worsley Cup winning squad in the sponsors lounge to cheer the boys on.
We’re into the second half of the season now - and the schedule doesn’t slow down there. More time down the club? Oh, go on then. So, what’s on this week and what time are we open?
Thursday 25th July
Our U11’s face high-flying Salesbury hoping to cause an upset. 6pm start.
And it’s Senior Training (6pm - 8pm) too.
We’ll be open as usual from 6pm. It’s Thursday, which means that we welcome the local darts league onto the oche in the sponsors lounge in the evening.
The Hundred will be shown (Sky Sports). Or, if you ask nicely, we may put the Rugby League on for you - Huddersfield Giants vs Leeds Rhinos at 8pm (Sky Sports).
Friday 26th July
Salesbury are back again - U13’s this time. 6pm start.
Friday night club in full swing from 7pm (that’s if the test match highlights have been turned off by then). Plenty of sport on the box into the evening with The Hundred, Rugby League, Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony and more.
It’s payday! Get yourselves down to start the weekend properly.
Saturday 27th July
Derby day for our THIRD XI. We’re away from home and play starts at 1pm.
Our U9 B team are in action in the morning at home vs Todmorden.
No game on the Turf in the afternoon, so we’re open from 3pm.
We’ll have the evening session of the test match (England v West Indies, Sky Sports), The Hundred (Sky Sports), Paris 2024 Olympics, the last few races of Saturday’s cards and Rugby League (Sky Sports) on. Plus, the Joyce - Chisora fight into the evening (BT Sport).
Sunday 28th July
Salesbury… again. U9’s this time for our morning cricket fix.
Our FIRST XI are away, meaning it’s Chocky’s SECOND XI at home to Enfield. Sitting pretty in 2nd in the league, we’re looking to build on our recent solid form with our young squad (and Brunty too). Play starts at 1pm.
Club open at 12.30pm. Anne will be on hot food from the kitchen - with a wide range of hot and cold specials on offer. Plus, happy hour all evening after the game. We’ll welcome back the FIRST XI and LADIES team after their fixture against Skelmersdale.
England vs West Indies Day 3 (Sky Sports), Belgian Grand Prix (Sky Sports) and the Rugby League (Sky Sports) should round off your sporting appetite for the weekend.

A New Face and a Couple of Old Ones!
The 2024 season is finally upon us this weekend after a two week delay. Fingers crossed that the weather is kinder than it has been of late and Good Luck to our Senior, Junior and Ladies teams for the 2024 summer.
Our 3rd XI kick things off on Saturday at Boohoo.com Turf Moor against local rivals Lowerhouse. New Captain David Clare takes charge of his young side for the first time with a 1pm start time.
The Ladies start their season away at Littleborough in a T20 Cup game, hoping to continue their success of the 2023 season.
Sunday sees the 1st XI begin their title defence at home to Church while the 2nd XI travel to Colne. Both games to start at 1pm.
We’re delighted to welcome New signing Adam Hodge to the club following his transfer from Earby CC. Adam is a talented 18 year old all rounder who has come through the ranks at Earby CC. He is a former Lancashire age group cricketer and has just spent the winter in Adelaide developing his game. We look forward to seeing him in action at the Turf!
There’s also a couple of old faces who return to the club for the new season. Graham Lalor returns after a couple of seasons with Todmorden, and Andy Beet makes his comeback after a few years out of the game. Both will help with the development of our young players transitioning into senior cricket. Welcome back lads!
Roll on the summer!!
New Skipper Announced
We are pleased to confirm that David Clare will take over as 3rd Team Captain for the 2024 season.
David takes over from Ben Sutcliffe, who has joined Rawtenstall CC over the winter. We thank Ben for his hard work during his tenure and wish him well at Rawtenstall.
Good Luck to David in his new role

GOLD and SILVER for 1st's and 2nd's
Burnley 1st’s have won the Lancashire League title after a dramatic final day.
The weather again took a hand in proceedings.
Burnley's game at Lowerhouse was abandoned but Darwen's defeat at Norden handed Burnley the title for the 18th time.
Lowerhouse reached 197-7 against Burnley.
Bharat Tripathi took 3-40 for Burnley.
Chasing a revised target of 131 from 27 overs, Burnley were 87-2 when the game was finally abandoned. Liam Bedford was unbeaten on 44 and Ockert Erasmus was on 2 when the players went off for the final time.
The 5 points picked up at Lowerhouse were enough to give Burnley the title.
Burnley’s 2nd XI were also in the running for the Junior Title.
Burnley went out to bat first at home against Lowerhouse, and the weather didn’t come into play in the first innings. Burnley managed 204 all out.
The showers started at tea and they were on and off the field several times throughout the second innings. giving Lowerhouse a revised target of 182 in 29 overs. Burnley managed to hold out and they only reached 134. giving Burnley 10pts.
Then the waiting began. Everything hung on the Darwen result.
Unfortunately it was Darwen’s day. They topped the table with 192 points, Burnley finished on 189. Congratulations to all involved at Darwen.
Captain Matt ‘Chocky’ Thornton received the 2nd place trophy
Ladies into the Cup FINAL!!
Our ladies team have had a long run to the weekends games going way back to the start of the summer.
The LCF Cup quarter final game took place in July at Ramsbottom where the ladies won by one run on the last ball of the T20 game. Ramsbottom put up a good fight and and made it a very tight game.
SEMI FINAL saw the ladies head to Sefton Park in August. Weather wasn’t great that morning but the mood was high. They came second in this cup last year and are fighting to go one better in 2023.
After batting first and putting on a score of 118, they were out to defend in the field. They managed to limit Sefton Park to 114, and this put the ladies into the final.
THE FINAL - takes place this Sunday 3rd September at Northern CC, vs Blackpool CC
LET JUNIOR Cup Winners!!!
Its been a long road to the final with the weather causing delays, but today was made for a cup final!!
Burnley 2nd’s took on Todmorden at the Centre Vale ground. We were batting first and after losing Aiden Tate (1) to a run out. Matthew Tomlinson and Joe Marshall both put on 19 each. When Tomlinson was dismissed, Gareth Halley (17) partnered with Marshall and took the score to 65. After this we lost 4 quick wickets with Aqib Mahmood taking 4/12 until Steve Brunt rescued the innings by scoring 39 off 46. Burnley were all out for 144.
Gareth Halley started the bowling strong sending the opening batters Dunkley (1) and Abbas (11) along with Atherton (5) back to the dressing room early leaving Todmorden 22/3.
Tom Stansfield (21) partnered captain Ben Sutcliffe (20) and put on a strong partnership, before being despatched by Ishaq Khan. Then we had the “Battle of the Ben Sutcliffe”…… The Todmorden captain was bowled by “Bar” his namesake and then tod were in trouble, they had made 76 but lost their top batting order. Ishaq took another 3 wickets giving him figures of 6 overs, 4 maidens, 4 wickets for 10 runs. Then ‘Brunty’ stepped up and took 2/1 and polished off the tail end to give Burnley the win and bring home the silverware.
Chairman of the JW Lees Lancashire Cricket league stepped up to present the trophy and in his speach mentioned several players that had a good game today but Man of the Match was given to 15 year old Ishaq Khan.
Captain Matt ‘Chocky’ Thornton lead the team to the final and bagged the trophy. All the players picked up their medals, the trophy and now the party can get started.
